The story of how I fell in love with photography is rather cliché — standing in my father’s darkroom as a young teen, I watched a previously white piece of paper transform into a beautiful black and white photograph. I was OBSESSED — and I’ve basically been taking photos ever since.
From a young age, I was always drawn to the emotion that photography can evoke. I would stare at portraits, unsure of how or why I was so captivated by the face of a stranger. Similarly, I could look at a dark blurry image in awe, equally curious, and completely unsure of why it was so compelling. It was mood and tone which drove my interest rather than the literal content of an image. Still, to this day, I often find it difficult to articulate why certain images can feel so powerful.
That feeling in an image and the curiosity that it sparks is what I aspire to. This is at the heart of why I photograph weddings. It’s all in the feels. And there’s nothing more special in knowing that these images will last generations to come and will be passed down beyond our lifetime.
When I’m not photographing weddings and love parties, I’m working on my own artisistic practice. You can see more of my work here: www.katedisherquill.com
